What is the Medtronic Global Champions program?

The Medtronic Global Champions^™ program recognizes athletes from around the world who have persevered through life-changing medical conditions and have returned to active life with the help of medical technology and solutions. The individuals in this program will serve as an inspiration to all who face health challenges and demonstrate that, with a medical device and quality healthcare, you can continue with an active and fulfilling life.

In 2018, 20 people —10 ten-mile and 10 marathon participants — will be selected for the Global Champions team. Finalists will be selected through a cooperative effort between Twin Cities in Motion, the organizers of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, and Medtronic. Global Champions and their guest-running partners will receive complimentary race entry, air transportation, meals and lodging for the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and Medtronic TC 10 Mile races in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.

When are the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and Medtronic TC 10 Mile Race?

Both events take place on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018. Global Champions will arrive on Thursday, Oct. 4 and depart on Monday, Oct. 8.

Can you tell me more about the event weekend?

Known as “The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America,” the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend is a three-day celebration of fitness that includes the Medtronic TC Family Events, TC 5K, TC 10K, Medtronic TC 10 Mile, and the marathon. Visit tcmevents.org for more information.

During the weekend, the Global Champions team will have the opportunity to participate in a number of Medtronic and Twin Cities Marathon hospitality and celebratory events.

Which medical devices or conditions are eligible?

Do I have to live in the United States to be eligible for the paid travel expenses?

No. We welcome applications from runners across the globe.

Are there any age restrictions for eligibility?

Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Do I need to consult with a physician before I apply?

Athletes with eligible devices or conditions must consult with a physician, who must deem them medically fit to participate in the race. You will need to provide documentation of medical clearance upon request from the Sponsor.

Are Medtronic or Twin Cities in Motion employees eligible?

No. Medtronic and Twin Cities in Motion employees and their immediate family members are not eligible.

I am a former Global Hero. Can I apply to be a Medtronic Global Champion?

At this time, to give others the opportunity to participate, previous Global Heroes or former Global Champions are not eligible to apply.
